Clone a remote

To clone the signal of a remote you can use the irrecord program. Use this procedure only if you can't add your remote from the LIRC database.

Irrecord will guide you through the entire process with on-screen instruction, but before starting you need to known how to name each remote key button. To see the supported key names, open a terminal and run the following command:

pi@d-diot:~ $ irrecord --list-namespace

Now we will start with the clone process; substitute “YOUR_REMOTE_NAME” according to your needs.

pi@d-diot:~ $ sudo systemctl stop lircd
pi@d-diot:~ $ irrecord

Find the recorded file:

pi@d-diot:~ $ ls -l

You should see a file named YOUR_REMOTE_NAME.lircd.conf. Of course substitute “YOUR_REMOTE_NAME” with the name of your remote and move the file to /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.d

pi@d-diot:~ $ sudo mv YOUR_REMOTE_NAME.lircd.conf /etc/lirc/lircd.conf.d/YOUR_REMOTE_NAME.lircd.conf

Restart LIRC and lirc_web to load the new remote:

pi@d-diot:~ $ sudo systemctl restart lircd
pi@d-diot:~ $ sudo killall node
pi@d-diot:~ $ sudo nohup su - homeassistant -c lirc_web >/dev/null 2>&1 &

To check that the cloned signal is well recognized by LIRC run the irw utility.

pi@d-diot:~ $ irw

If OK you should see the remote and key name previously recorder every time the corresponding key is pressed on the remote.

Finish! Now you should see your new remote in lirc_web
